General Questions

What is the HU-GO system (distance based toll)

HU-GO is Hungary's electronic toll system for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes (trucks, heavy goods vehicles, buses, and vehicle+trailer combinations exceeding that weight).

Unlike the e-vignette Hungary, the HU-GO toll system is distance based, meaning you are paid by the kilometer driven on tolled roads.

There are two options for paying the toll fees:

  • An On-Board Unit (OBU) is fitted to the vehicle, this uses the GPS network to track kilometers
  • Alternatively, a route ticket can be purchased in advance which allows to use a pre-declared route (suitable for occasional travelers)

Toll rates differ based on:

  • Number of axles
  • Euro emission class
  • Vehicle weight (vehicle + trailer)
